A nice day at the theater

Yesterday, a small group of us spent the morning at the Historic Hawaii Theater, cheering our friend, Cathy. She’s been taking dancing classes with a group called Na Maka O Pu’uwai Aloha (Descendants of Generosity). Every year, all the teachers and students gather at the Hawaii Theater to show off their work and to raise funds for their scholarships. Students come in all shapes and ages and may take classes in hip hop, jazz, ballet, hula and tap dance. When my friend first signed up, she wanted me to come along with her. I declined after I learned that they start every class with a mean abs workout. Me doing crunches? No. And I have two left feet too. But I like watching other people dance, more so if they’re my friends. Then it’s not only the lights, the music, and the fun. It’s also celebrating and being a witness to a friend’s accomplishments.
